The History

The House & Barn

The House and the Barn were built in the early 1800's when the pioneers first settled the area. The house was originally constructed as a wooden frame home, with brick added to the structure in 1890.

The Barn has served many purposes throughout its history, first as a livery house, then as an auction house, and finally as a horse stable. In 2011, the Barn was converted into its present day use as a wedding and events venue.

The Town

The Town of Fernhill was named after a choir song called "Curtis Corners"

Fernhill General Store

The Fernhill General Store was built in 1859 and still stands today as a personal residence.

The Blacksmith Shop

At its inception Fernhill was a thriving rural town with a blacksmith  shop, a shoe maker, a temperance hall, a saw mill and a distillery. Today it largely serves as a community of rural residences.

The School

The Fernhill School, known locally as Woodward school, served the community for decades before its conversion into a private residence. The original structure still stands today on Poplar Hill Road.
